On September 27, 2024, the Ancient Books Publishing Working Committee of the Publishers Association of China announced the results of the 2023 National Top 100 Ancient Books selection. "Shuihudi Western Han Bamboo Slips · Zhiri" was awarded the first prize in the National Top 100 Ancient Books (2023).
The first volume of "Shuihudi Western Han Bamboo Slips," titled "Zhiri," was collaboratively compiled by the Hubei Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and the Bamboo and Silk Research Center of Wuhan University. It was co-edited by Professor Chen Wei of the Bamboo and Silk Research Center and Researcher Xiong Beisheng of the Hubei Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, with contributions from Cai Dan and others. Published by the Zhongxi Book Company in October 2023, this volume documents 14 years of Zhiri records written by Yue people from the 10th year of Emperor Wen's reign (170 BC) to the 7th year of the later Yuan era. Zhiri was a popular form of documentation during the Qin and Han dynasties, but it has since been lost. Typically based on a calendar year, it briefly records public and private affairs, similar to later diaries. By interpreting these Zhiri records, we can reconstruct the calendar and seasons of that time, understand the stories of the Yue people and their colleagues and family members, and study important systems such as township and household accounting.
