From 16 October to 14 November 2016, associate professor Vasilis Politis from the Department of Philosophy of Trinity College in Ireland was invited to give lectures to graduate students of the School of Philosophy on Ancient Greece philosophy.
On November 10, Professor Politis gave a lecture entitled "Reason and Love in Plato" in the lecture hall of the School of Philosophy. In the course of the lecture, Politis raised a central question: if love is irrational, and our happiness is based on reason and rational control of irrationality, then how can love become one of the elements of our happiness and goodness?
Politis is a famous expert who specializes in ancient Greek philosophers; he is the director of the Plato Research Center of Trinity College. His field of study is mainly Plato and Aristotle, and his work in this field includesAristotle and the Metaphysics(Routledge, 2004), Plato's Theory of Ideas: An Introduction to Idealism (Academia Verlag, 2004).
