From September 7 to 8, Professor Dermot Moran –President of the International Federation of philosophical Societies, Academician of the Royal Irish Academy of Sciences, Professor of Philosophy at University College Dublin, famous phenomenologist, founder and editor ofInternational Journal of Philosophical Studies –visited Wuhan University, delivered two lectures on phenomenology in the School of Philosophy.
On September 7, Professor Moran made a lecture entitled "Phenomenology: intentionality." After the lecture, students and teachers had an in-depth discussion with Professor Moran concerning the relations between the content of intentionality and object of intentionality. The whole lecture carried academic seriousness, profoundness and effectiveness of exchanges of opinions.
The second lecture was conducted on September 8. Professor Moran first delivered a report entitled “Empathy in Phenomenology”, and then discussed with students and teachers for half an hour.
In these two lectures, Professor Moran not only expounded on the history of the two concepts: intentionality and empathy, but also compared and discussed the modern interpretations of these two concepts from contemporary analytical philosophy point of view, it is instrumental for the broadening of academic horizon for both teachers and students.
