Italian Scholars Professor Domenico Losurdo Give Lecture in WHU

On April 29, Professor Domenico Losurdo from the University of Urbino in Italy was invited to the School of Marxism of Wuhan University, and delivered an academic report entitled "the Socialist Society with Chinese Characteristics from the Perspective of a Western Marxist".

Professor Losurdo discussed how socialist society views bourgeois from the economic and political perspectives. Take China for example, during the period of New Democratic Revolution, Mao Zedong put forward that the political capital of the bourgeois should be completely confiscated while the economic capital should be retained. Deng Xiaoping proposed that "poverty is not socialism", and efforts should be made to promote reform and opening up, develop productive forces so as to innovate the socialism model. He believes that China’s economic development has proved theoretically that the superiority of communism compared to capitalism lies in the full development of productive forces, and China’s economic development, objectively speaking, has reduced worldwide inequalities between developed and backward countries. Professor Losurdo believes the external problem of China is that imperialists, headed by the United States, usually promote neo-colonialism and compress China’s living space under the pretext of “freedom and democracy”.
