Chinese University Students Ideological and Political Education Development Report 2015 Published in Wuhan

On April 22, the Chinese University Students Ideological and Political Education Development Report 2015 Press Conference and the University Students Ideological Education Development Forum 2016 were held in Wuhan.

“Chinese University Students Ideological and Political Education Development Report” is a Philosophy and Social Science Development Report Project under the Ministry of Education, the survey will be conducted randomly in one university from the 30 selected universities such as Renmin University of China, Tianjin University, Dalian University of Technology and so on. Chinese University Students Ideological and Political Education Development Report 2015 focuses on "ideas and behavior of college students," "ideological and political education and its effectiveness", exploring indicators related to college students’ outlook on life, values, political view, morality, culture, behavior choices, education channels and education effect etc. According to the survey, 91.7% of college students are willing to participate in volunteer activities such as disaster relief, education support in mountainous area and environmental protection; 83.1% of the students take part in public welfare (voluntary) activities every year. More than 92% of the students believe that the "Lei Feng Spirit" is not out of date, 91.6% of the students express their willingness to lend a helping hand when they see an elderly fall to the ground. Generally speaking, university students follow with keen interest current affairs, and domestic politics (76.5%) and international politics (59%) are the categories of news and information where they show most interest. The vast majority of college students can correctly understand the relations between national dream and personal dream, 77.8% of respondents agree with the idea that their life dream is to realize both the national dream and the dream of individual. Students are showing a strong concept of collectivism, 74.2% of them can relate to the idea that "life value can be realized better in the collective value "; 87.9% of the students express a clear ideal of life, up to 94.9% of the students point out they have a long-term or short-term life planning.

Professor Shen Zhuanghai from the School of Marxism of Wuhan University who chaired this project points out that the overall ideological and political situation of university students features an active, positive, and diverse nature, college students generally have a correct life values, firm ideals and beliefs, noble morality, and high cultural self-confidence. The survey also exposed some problems, such as the "hedonism" and "extreme individualism" has gained momentum. And university students’ discipline, moral confidence and political trust need to be further enhanced.
