Language and Digital Humanities Symposium Held in School of Foreign Language and Literature

On November 10, Language and Digital Humanities Symposium is held in the School of Foreign Language and Literature. It is hosted by the Hubei Language and Intelligent Information Processing Research Base. Keynote speakers of the meeting include Professor Fu Caiwu from National Institute of Cultural Development in Wuhan University, and Professor Wu Hongmiao, deputy director of the Hubei Language and Intelligent Information Processing Research Base and professor of the School of Foreign Language and Literature.

In his report entitled Reflections on the Digital Humanities Fusion Study, Professor Fu Caiwu points out, in the context of big data, the fusion of humanities and digits has reached a critical point where humanities and social sciences should make full use of digital information technology to seek new development opportunities. Meanwhile, technical problems arised from data acquisition, data filtering and data analysis have put forward thorny requirements for semantic technology.

In his report entitled A Vision of Transformational Generative Grammar, Professor Wu Hongmiao proposes a new theory of translation by combining French-Chinese translation practices. Based on the theoretical foundation of thematic theory, case grammar, and hierarchical concept network, he puts forward a brand new clause-based translation concept.
