Professor Chen Wenxin Invited for Keynote Speech in Korean Chinese Language Society 2015 Annual International Academic Conference

On November 6, the Korean Chinese Language Society 2015 Annual International Academic Conference entitled Return to Texts: Return to the Origin of Chinese Language Research and Teaching was held at Soongsil University in Seoul. Professor Chen Wenxin from our university delivered a keynote speech entitled Local Confucianism and Taige Style in the Cultural Patterns of Early Ming Dynasty.

Professor Chen Wenxin pointed out that there were two phenomena in the cultural patterns of the early Ming Dynasty worth noticing, firstly, compared to the neglected local schools in the mid-and-late period, local Confucianism in the early Ming Dynasty flourished;  secondly, during the period from Emperor Yong Le to Emperor Xuan De, the Taige Style was very popular. The fact that both the local Confucianism and Taige Style became popular and they were closely interconnected. The growing influence of Taige Style was the result of cultural integration in the early Ming Dynasty. And the reason why Taige Style, as the literature style representing the official upper class reached a broad lower social and cultural range was that local Confucianism once played a vital role. During the cultural integration process in the early Ming Dynasty, local Confucianism once played a crucial role, whereas Taige style was the symbol of the establishment of a new cultural pattern in the early Ming Dynasty.
