Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War Symposium Held in Beijing

From August 15 to 16, Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War Symposium, co-sponsored by Chinese Research Association of History of the Second World War, and the National Territorial Sovereignty and Maritime Rights and InterestsCollaborative Innovation Center, was held in Beijing.

Professor Hu Dekun, president of the Chinese Research Association of History of the Second World War, dean of the Wuhan University China Institute of Boundary and Ocean Studies, and director of the National Territorial Sovereignty and Maritime Rights and InterestsCollaborative Innovation Center, Lieutenant General Li Dianren,senior adviser of the Chinese Research Association of History of the Second World War, and OuyangYujing, director of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed the opening ceremony.

The topics discussed in the seminar include: historic research on Chinese people’s war of resistance against Japanese aggressionand the world anti-fascist war, the position and role of the Chinese people’s war of resistance against Japanese aggression, World War II and the postwar international order, World War II and China’s border and marine issues, establishing a correct view of history and so on. 36 experts and scholars specializing in history, international law, and international relations delivered speeches at this 2-day symposium. More than 100 people from research institutes, military, universities and other organizations participated the seminar.

OuyangYujing pointed out that the Chinese people’s war of resistance against Japanese aggression is the main battlefield of the world anti-fascist war in the East, which has contributedtremendously to the victory of the world anti-fascist war, and the great cause of world peace. We commemorate the victory of Chinese people’s war of resistance against Japanese aggression, more importantly, we uphold international justice, unswervingly defend the fruits of victory of the world anti-fascist war and the United Nations at the core of the post-war international order of peace, and jointly promote the lofty cause of world peace and development.

Researcher Jia Yu from China Institute for Marine Affairs delivered a keynote speech entitled Approaching the Principles of Cairo Declaration and Potsdam Proclamation from the Perspective of International Law and the Violation of Treaty of Peace with Japan. The Treaty of Peace with Japan and the following illegal transfer deals between Japan and America are the main reason why East China Sea, South China Sea and the Taiwan issue still remains to be unsolved today.

Major General Xiao Yusheng, vice president of the Chinese Research Association of History of the Second World War, made a keynote speech entitled On the Main Oriental Battlefield of the World Anti-Fascist War and the Hot Issues of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. Chinese people’s war of resistance against Japanese aggression was the main battlefield of the world anti-fascist war in the East. It was because of this historical contribution, China has entered the rank of major powers in the world, became one of the main founders of the United Nations and secured a well-deserved position as permanent member in the Security Council.

China was one of the four wartime anti-fascist countries in the world. China was the main battlefield not only in Asia, but also in the world. However, due to the impact of the Cold War, the important position and role of China have been underappreciated and ignored by western countries for 70 years since the war ended. The Chinese battlefield played an important role fighting back the main force of the Japanese land army and some of the navy, whichhas dealt a heavy blow to the Japanese fascists, and strongly supportedthe US-British-Soviet ally, thus making great contribution to the victory of World War II and post-war reconstruction of the international order.
