Our University Led to Complete Large-scale Enterprise Survey

     In the context of economic restructuring, how can China's industrial enterprises adjust their structure, conform to industrial upgrading and improve production quality? The "2015 Guangdong manufacturing 'transformation and upgrading, quality and efficiency' enterprise - employee matching survey" led by our university recently completed, and we have gained some first-hand data around this theme.

    This enterprise survey, which took three years to complete, was oriented towards the manufacturing business of Guangdong Province, and it was jointly conducted by renowned institutions like the Quality Development Strategy Research Institute of Wuhan University, Tsinghua University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Academy of Social Sciences etc. It is the first domestic comprehensive large sample of company - employee matching survey, similar surveys on a global scale also is rare.

    According to Cheng Hong, President of the Quality Development Strategy Research Institute, first-hand data of business survey is the most important foundation for disciplines like economics, management science to conduct scientific research. Compared with other types of socio-economic surveys, this kind of survey is more complicated and more difficult in terms of determining the sample, enterprise coordination and investigation process control among others.

     Since May 2015, more than 150 investigators from 18 investigation teams conducted survey in 20 sample areas of 14 cities in Guangdong. 834 companies were selected at random from 330,000 companies and were surveyed, 573 valid enterprise questionnaires and 4988 employees questionnaires were collected.

    The survey attracted attention from both home and abroad, scholars from well-known universities in Hong Kong, Japan, the United States, France and other places expressed their hope that they want to engage with Wuhan University in collaborative research and jointly publish high-level international papers based on this survey data. The survey will be extended to other provinces next year, forming a nationwide "China Business Survey Database". The National Natural Science Foundation has expressed great interest in this database.
