Prof. GuoQiyong Delivered Keynote Speech at the 19th International Conference on Chinese Philosophy

From July 21 to 24, the 19^thInternational Conference on Chinese Philosophy was held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong with the theme of "Chinese philosophy in the contemporary world". More than 150 experts and scholars at home and abroad gathered together to share the latest development of philosophical research throughout China, and exchange the results of academic achievement.

Professor GuoQiyong from Wuhan University attended the conference at the invitation of Professor XinGuanglai, President of the Conference from the University of California at Berkeley and Professor ZhengZongyi from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and delivered a keynote speech entitled "the spirit and characteristics of Chinese philosophy and its criticism and transcendence of modernity". He is the only Chinese scholar in the 7 keynote speakers. Prof. Guo summed up seven characteristics of Chinese philosophy, and explored the role of criticism, guidance and transcendence the spirit of Chinese philosophy plays in modernity, and he also showed cautious optimism when it came to the revival of studies of Chinese ancient civilization in the contemporary Chinese society. In addition, Prof. Guo also participated in the "Chinese Philosophical Research in Chinese-speaking World" seminar, and introduced research status of Chinese philosophy in Mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Professor He Ping from our university also attended the meeting and spoke at parallel session.

It is learnt that the International Society for Chinese Philosophy (ISCP) was founded in 1975 with the aim to provide a platform for Chinese philosophy scholars from around the world to exchange ideas. The conference is conducted once every two years, and it is one of the largest academic activities in the circle of Chinese philosophy. (School of Philosophy  ZeMian)
