In July, the 2015 "Sociology and Social Governance in the Era of Big Data Computing" symposium was held at Wuhan University Luojia mountain villa. This conference was organized by the Sociology Department of Wuhan University. Experts and scholars from the United States, Thailand and nearly a hundred representatives from 14 provinces and cities throughout the nation have participated in the conference. Mr. LuoYuting, vice party secretary of Wuhan University, and Mr. Zhang Yi, vice party secretary and deputy director of the Institute of Sociology of the Chinese Academy of Social Science delivered speeches in the opening ceremony. Lin Zeng, head of the Department of Sociology of Wuhan University, has presided over the conference.
After the opening ceremony, participants gave presentations and had discussions around the topics of "big city data analysis", "big data and social governance", "from the local community to immigrant society: Chinese urban transformation", "mega-cities social governance in the big data era" and "light data and flow of migrant workers – applications of big data in the research of migrant workers" etc.
It is reported that this seminar is the first of its kind in China involving big data computational sociology, it also introduces computational sociology in a comprehensive and systematic way, which has attracted wide attention in the domestic circle of sociology.
