[Academic Exchange] Mao Dun Literature Prize Winner Qiao Ye Discusses "Literature and Hometown"

News Network (Correspondent: Zou Xi) On October 18, Qiao Ye was invited as a guest at the "Wen Yiduo Forum" of the School of Chinese Language and Literature at Wuhan University, delivering a literary lecture titled "Literature and Hometown."

Qiao Ye shared her thoughts on literature and life experiences, the writing of hometown narratives, and the relationship between literature and the fate of the times, based on her personal writing experience and the creative experience of works such as "Baoshui". She reflected on her transition from a rural teacher to a professional writer, emphasizing how writing changed her fate. She noted that her hometown played a significant role in her creative and life experiences, referring to herself as a "child of the countryside" and recognizing the power of her homeland through repeated self-reflection and revision.

Discussing her novel "Baoshui," which won the 11th Mao Dun Literature Prize, Qiao Ye stated that she wrote about rural revitalization because of "Baoshui" and further elaborated on her views regarding grand narratives in the new era. She expressed that her creations often start from the "small self," constructing grand narratives through details, thereby achieving a gradual expansion from the small self to the collective self.

Throughout the lecture, Qiao Ye showcased her passion for literary creation, profound affection for her hometown, and deep understanding of writing techniques and literary values. After the lecture, she talked to students, encouraging them to delve into life, draw creative inspiration from social practice, and explore their spiritual homeland with their pens.
