【International Forum】The First "International Forum on the Study of Bamboo and Wooden Slips from the Warring States, Qin, and Han Dynasties" Held at Seoul National University

From May 17 to 18, 2024, the first "International Forum on the Study of Bamboo and Wooden Slips from the Warring States, Qin, and Han Dynasties" was held at Seoul National University. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Oriental History and the Institute of East Asian Cultures at Seoul National University, Center of Bamboo and Silk Manuscripts of Wuhan University, and the Institute for the Humanities of Kyoto University.

In 2021, Professor Chen Wei from the Center of Bamboo and Silk Manuscripts of Wuhan University, Professor Miyazaki Kiyoshi from the Institute for the Humanities of Kyoto University, and Professor Kim Byung-jun from the Department of Oriental History and the Institute of East Asian Cultures at Seoul National University initiated a collaboration. The three institutions regularly conducted online reading sessions of bamboo and wooden slips from the Warring States, Qin, and Han dynasties, sharing their latest research insights to strengthen academic exchanges and connections among their faculty and students. Between 2021 and 2023, they held 12 online reading sessions, shared and reviewed 36 academic papers, and involved over 50 scholars and postgraduate students.

The "First International Forum on the Study of Bamboo and Wooden Slips from the Warring States, Qin, and Han Dynasties," held at Seoul National University, was a new attempt to combine online reading with offline joint discussions. The forum focused on the theme of "Bamboo and Wooden Slips from the Warring States, Qin, and Han Dynasties," with participants presenting 14 papers. These papers covered topics such as textual interpretation of bamboo and wooden slips, textual organization of newly unearthed bamboo and wooden slips, and the historical, cultural content, legal, and administrative systems revealed by these slips. The forum facilitated a thorough and in-depth discussion and exchange among the scholars.
