(Correspondent: Chang Xuan) Enshi City is a counterpart assistance unit of Wuhan University. Recently, the School of History of Wuhan University conducted archaeological investigations and exploration work at the Liuzhou City Site in Enshi, revealing its cultural connotations and historical significance, and helping Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture score new achievements in cultural heritage protection.
On March 10th, Xu Dongxing, Assistant to the President ofWuhan University and Director of the Office of Party and Government Affairs of Wuhan University, Xu Wei, Director of the Standing Committee of the Enshi Municipal People's Congress, Wu Demin, Deputy Mayor of Enshi, Xiang Yihua, Secretary of the Party Group of the Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau, Liu Hongtao, Director of the Municipal Cultural Relics Management Bureau, and Zheng Xianzhen, Party Secretary of Baiguo Village in Enshi City, visited the Liuzhou City Site in Enshi to conduct research and visit the teachers and students from the School of History who are working there.
It is learnt that the Liuzhou City Site is located in the Qiliping Street Office of Enshi City, and is a part of the "Shizhou City Site", a national key cultural relic protection unit. Since 2021, Professor He Shiwei from the School of History and the Archaeological Institute of Yangtze Civilization has led a research team to carry out a series of work on the site, including field archaeological surveys, exploration, and digital surveying. This provides scientific basis and intellectual support for clarifying the layout of Liuzhou City, accurately determining the age of the relics in the city, and formulating cultural relic protection plans. Going forward, the Liuzhou City Site Archaeological Work Team will develop a field archaeological excavation plan based on the survey and exploration results, so as to reveal the construction method and functional zoning of Liuzhou City, and explain the cultural connotation and historical significance of Liuzhou City.
For a long time, in the process of promoting rural revitalization in Enshi City, according to the arrangements of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Wuhan University has leveraged its resource advantages, focusing on cultural, educational, medical, industrial, talent, ecological and other assistance projects, optimizing the assistance mechanism, consolidating the assistance achievements, and striving to make the foundation of rural revitalization in Enshi City more stable and sustainable.
