Liang Xi International Organization Law (Seventh Edition) was Published

TheLiang Xi International Organization Law (Seventh Edition), written by our famous jurist Professor Liang Xi and revised by Professor Yang Zewei, was recently published by Wuhan University Press, which reflects the academic heritage of the first-class discipline of law in Wuhan University.

Liang Xi International Organization Law (Seventh Edition)originates from Mr. Liang Xi's previous lectures for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in international law at Peking University (class of 1978-1981) and Wuhan University (class of 1981-1983). The first edition, entitledModern International Organizations, was officially published in 1984. It was the first monograph on international organization law in China and the only one in this emerging field of international law for a long time. It won the second prize of the first batch of excellent textbooks for colleges and universities of the National Education Commission.

For the next 30 years, Professor Liang xi has revisedModern International Organizationmany times. In 1993, the second edition was published as the "liberal arts textbook for colleges and universities" during the "Seventh Five Year Plan", this edition was renamed asInternational Organization Law, and won the first prize of the third excellent textbook for colleges and universities of the National Education Commission. In 1996, the third revised edition was published in Taiwan (by Zhiyi Publishing House) as a vertical version. The fourth edition was published in 1998. The fifth edition in 2001 and recommended as the "Postgraduate Textbook" by the Postgraduate Work Office of the Ministry of Education. It was praised as a rare academic masterpiece by the academic community. In 2011, Professor Yang Zewei assisted Professor Liang in revising and publishing the sixth edition, which was renamedLiang's International Organization Law. In 2022, in compliance with Mr. Liang's will, Professor Yang Zewei revised and published the seventh edition, which was namedLiang Xi International Organization Law.

Compared with similar works at home and abroad,Liang Xi International Organization Law (Seventh Edition)has at least four characteristics in terms of research perspective and methods. First, the international organization law constructed by this monograph is based on the profound analysis of the development rules of human society and the international social structure; Second, it always combines the study of international organization law with the development trend of international law; Third, the legal thought of international organizations has a distinctive touch of legal philosophy, especially reflected in the introduction of Part I, the epilogue of Part VI and the introduction of other chapters; Fourth, it is closely connected with the practice of relevant international organizations in China. In a word,Liang Xi International Organization Law (Seventh Edition)has created a discipline system of international organization law with Chinese characteristics, constructed the jurisprudence of international organizations, and put forward and elaborated a series of innovative academic views, which greatly improved the theoretical depth and academic value of international organization law.

Author Profile

Professor Liang Xi (1924-2020), a famous international jurist, law educator, pioneer and founder of Chinese international organization law, alias Liang Songyun, was born in Anhua, Hunan. From 1953 to 1982, he taught in the Department of Law of Peking University. He has taught at Wuhan University since 1983, and was selected and approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as the doctoral tutor of international law in 1986. He has successively served as a director and consultant of the China International Law Society, a member of the China Maritime Arbitration Commission, a legal adviser of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, and a legal adviser of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Hubei Province.

Professor Yang Zewei is the reviser ofLiang Xi International Organization Law (Seventh Edition). Born in Xinning, Hunan in 1968. He is a doctoral supervisor of the Institute of International Law of Wuhan University, the chief expert of the team of the national high-end think tank -- International Institute of Rule of Law of Wuhan University, the chief expert of the major bidding project of the National Social Science Foundation, the major research project of the National Social Science Foundation, and the major research project of the Ministry of Education's philosophy and social science research, and he has been selected into the Ministry of Education's "New Century Excellent Talents" support plan.
