【Academic Achievements】The "Overseas Humanities and Social Sciences Research Frontier Tracking Program" has Achieved Fruitful Results

On April 28th, the symposium on "Fifteen Years Review and Prospect of Overseas Humanities and Social Sciences Research Frontier Tracking Program" was held, and the project results were released online. Han Jin, Secretary of WHU Party Committee, presented commemorative books to the ten authors of the "Overseas Humanities and Social Sciences Annual Report 2020".

Fang Qing, Dean of the Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences, reviewed and summarized the project. He pointed out that since the "Overseas Humanities and Social Sciences Research Frontier Tracking Program" was launched in 2006, 15 years have past, and 15 "Overseas Humanities and Social Sciences Development Reports" have been published with nearly 10 million words and good social response. 177 scholars from more than 20 liberal arts schools and scientific research institutions participated in the writing of the annual reports, covering almost all humanities and social science disciplines, with materials in English, French, Japanese and other languages. He emphasized that Wuhan University will continue to make efforts in promoting research results into the digital channel of open access, conducting interdisciplinary exchanges and dialogues, realizing "two links" to promote efficient transformation of results, and summarizing and refining overseas academic frontier research paradigms based on practical experience.

Shen Zhuanghai, Deputy Secretary of WHU Party Committee and Deputy Editor-in-chief of the "Overseas Humanities and Social Sciences Development Annual Report", pointed out when presiding over the meeting that efforts should be made to continuously promote the overseas humanities and social science research frontier tracking program, firstly, the concept should be more clear, the program should be conducted based on the logic of "understanding, dialogue, development, influence”; secondly, in terms of form, we must pay attention to a variety of aspects with both panoramic display and in-depth exploration; thirdly, in terms of content, we must pay close attention to basic issues, and explore "big issues" and “new issues” with distinctive characteristics of the times, demonstrating our academic confidence and vitality.

Han Jin, Secretary of the Party Committee and Editor-in-chief of the "Overseas Humanities and Social Sciences Development Annual Report", emphasized in his concluding speech that first, we must continue to persevere and never waver. The overseas tracking program has contributed and helped to promote the development of philosophy and social sciences in Wuhan University, strengthen the development of talent teams, and speed up the process of internationalization. According to the new requirements of the development of philosophy and social sciences in the new era, we should carry out re-planning, re-positioning, and re-adjustment as we go. Facing the complex and diverse external environment, we should not only be a " porter”, but a "system integrator", and we should integrate our own thinking and assessment in the research. The third is to seek truth from facts and return to academics. To promote the development of philosophy and social sciences, we must adhere to seeking truth from facts, take China as a reflection, take the times as a reflection, base ourselves on China's reality, solve China's problems, and build a more effective Chinese discourse and Chinese narrative system, create a better environment for the development of philosophy and social sciences in the next fifteen years, and make greater contributions to the development of Chinese philosophy and social sciences.
