Professor John Millsheimer Lectures on Liberalism and International Political Reality

On October 26, Professor John J. Mearsheimer from the University of Chicago brings an academic report entitled "the Great Delusion: Liberal Dreams and International Realities" at the 310thLuojia Lecture of the Wuhan University.

Professor Mearsheimer started with important concepts such as nationalism, liberalism, and liberal hegemony, and then he analyzed why the United States pursues liberal hegemony, how the actions of liberal hegemony are presented, and why will it ultimately fail.

Mearsheimer believes that after the end of the Cold War, US diplomacy pursues liberal hegemony, it attempts to reshape the world with American ideals and has been involved in several wars. American liberal hegemony consists of three components: first, the dissemination of liberal democracy around the world; second, the promotion of more and more countries into the open international economic system; and third, the increasing number of countries in international institutions (mechanism). The liberal hegemonic policy has suffered major failures in the world. For example, conflicts in the Greater Middle East, Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq continue to rise and security situation there is worrying. The root cause is that nationalism and realism are important factors that led to the blockade of American liberal hegemony and ultimately failure.
