The Interdisciplinary Forum on Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence was Held in our University

The Interdisciplinary Forum on Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence, jointly organized by the Research Center for Chinese Language and Social Development of the National Language Committee and the Institute of Big Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence of Wuhan University, was held at Wuhan University.

More than 30 well-known experts and scholars from universities, research institutes and technology companies such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, as well as Huawei and iFLYTEK attended the forum, their background covers linguistics, computer science, artificial intelligence, information industry and other disciplines.

Vice President Wu Ping pointed out that language is the most important communication tool and cultural carrier of human beings. Artificial intelligence is the most advanced core technology in the contemporary era. The deep interaction and combination of the two will greatly promote technological innovation and social progress.

Prof. Lu Yuming from Peking University said that artificial intelligence is not a single subject. It is a large comprehensive discipline with large cross-disciplinary and large-scale integration of many disciplines such as literature, science and engineering. It requires the joint efforts of different disciplines. For language researchers, it is necessary to work towards the model of "linguistics +".

Professor Li Sheng from Harbin Institute of Technology reviewed the development of artificial intelligence and pointed out that although there is a round of artificial intelligence craze nowadays, the problems of cognition and understanding have not yet been resolved, and we need to do a lot of work in this regard.
