On the morning of January 20, 2019, Academician Dou Xiankang, President of Wuhan University, and his colleagues visited the Big Data Institute and guided its work.
Professor Ma Feicheng said that the Big Data Institute is positioned to support the development of the humanities and social sciences, and choose six most influential areas: financial big data, health big data, social governance big data, business big data, cultural big data and media big data.
President Dou Xiankang affirmed the current work of the Big Data Institute and raised hopes for the development of the Institute: “Each field has its own characteristics. The Big Data Institute must support the research of humanities and social sciences of our university. First, it must has core technology; second, it must has data sources, its development should be combined with related disciplines so as to build a featured database.”
At the research meeting, Hong Liang, deputy director of the Big Data Technology R&D Center and associate professor of the School of Information Management, gave a presentation on the financial data platform of the Institute. Huang Minxue, deputy dean of the Big Data Institute and professor of the School of Economics and Management, demonstrated the combination of business data and GIS data, and gave an in-depth introduction of the data platform, business system and related research results.
It is reported that since its establishment, Wuhan University's Big Data Institute has not only devoted itself to the construction of a big data research service platform, but also organized data method training camp, big data forum, etc., the Nature Science Foundation of China and the Banking Regulatory Bureau of Hubei Province have always paid close attention to its work. In the future development, the Big Data Institute will deepen interdisciplinary research and resource development, help the development of humanities and social sciences in Wuhan University, and contribute to the construction of “double first-class” university.
