The First Growth and Development Doctoral Forum Held in WHU

From October 17 to 18, the first Growth and Development Doctoral Forum was held in the School of Economics and Management. The forum was jointly organized by China’s Economic Endogenous Growth and Development Collaborative Innovation Center, Economic Development Research Center of Wuhan University and Economic Review magazine.

Professor Xie Danyang, Dean of School of Economics and Management, delivered an opening report entitled Changes of the Economic Growth Theory. He believes that the development of economic growth theory is largely due to the changes of portraying the production function, while changes in technology actually imply changes in thinking, and that’s reflected in the interaction between production function and thinking.  Through his introduction of relevant models like Harrod-Domar model, Solow model and improved Romer model, Professor Xie sorted out the changes of growth theory, put forward several hypothesis: the introduction of environmental capital in the production function can lead to more profound portrait of the role of service production function, innovation function, and finance by considering heterogeneity.

Nine Doctors from higher learning institutions and research institutions including the Academy of Social Sciences expounded on their analysis and understanding of economic growth and development issues.
