The 4th Sino-US International Symposium on Library and Information Science Education in the Digital Age held in WHU

 

 

    From October 25 to 27, the 4th Sino-US International Symposium on Library and Information Science Education in the Digital Age was held in our school. Deans of School of Library and Information as well as Chief Librarians of a dozens of universities from home and abroad came together to discuss the issue of library in the big data era, and the reform and innovation of information and archive management education.

 

    Michael Seadle,President of the World's Leading Information Academic Alliance (iSchool), and dean of the School of Library and Information of Humboldt University in Germany. Seamus Ross, president of the American Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) and dean of the School of Library and Information of the University of Toronto. Gary Marchionini, dean of the School of Information Science of University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and other deans of School of Library and Information Science of well-known domestic universities as well as Chief Librarians of some key universities attended this conference.

 

 

 

    In the opening ceremony, vice president of Wuhan University Li Fei, Michael Seadle, and Peter Zhou -- representative of American partners, deputy librarian of the University of California at Berkeley, and Chief Librarian of the East Asian Library of UCB -- addressed the conference. There were 13 academic reports being delivered in this conference. Experts and scholars from home and abroad discussed issues relating to library in the big data era, the reform and innovation of information and archive management education, aiming to strengthen exchanges and cooperation of Library and Information, Archive Education and iSchool, deepen researches and global cooperation in Library and Information as well as Archive Education, and enhance the bond between Library and Information, Archive Education and Library and Information Industry.

 

    Conference proceedings has collected a total of 34 academic papers. The conference also issued Initiatives on the Reform and Development of Chinese Library and Information Science Education in the Era of Big Data. It is learnt that the conference is co-organized by the Wuhan University,World's Leading Information Academic Alliance (iSchool) and American Association of Library and Information Science Education (ALISE).
