On March 19, Wuhan University convened the 2025 Planning Meeting for Humanities and Social Sciences Research. Vice President Lu Wei attended the meeting, along with research directors and secretaries from all humanities faculties, key research bases under the Ministry of Education, and other academic research entities.
At the meeting, officials from the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences at Wuhan University presented detailed arrangements and plans concerning research project applications, the development of AI-empowered humanities disciplines, the development of think tanks, and the assessment of research institutions.
Lu Wei emphasized that the development of the humanities is currently facing numerous challenges, and there is an urgent need for greater commitment in this field. He put forward four key requirements for the next phase of the university's development in the humanities: 1.Maintain conviction – firmly believe in the unique value and mission of the humanities in today’s world. 2. Set clear goals – align the development of the humanities with the overall objective of building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics. 3. Foster a conducive environment – strengthen efforts in talent recruitment and cultivation, promote international exchange to broaden academic horizons, and inspire innovative thinking. 4. Pursue bold reforms – actively explore new models and paths for the development of the humanities, promote deep integration with other disciplines, and respond to national strategic needs, thereby facilitating the transformation and upgrading of humanities research to better serve national development.
