Xie Danyang was born in Qimen County, Anhui Province. In 1983, he graduated from Wuhan University as a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics; in 1992, he received a doctor’s degree in economics from University of Chicago, USA. Academic experience: Teaching Assistant of Mathematics, Wuhan University, 1983-1985; Assistant Professor of Economics, University of Montreal, Canada, 1991-1994; Assistant Professor, HKUST, 1993-1998; Promoted as an associate professor with tenure, 1998; Economist and Senior Economist, International Monetary Fund, 2000-2004; Associate Professor of Economics and Senior Wei Lun Fellow, HKUST, 2004; Professor of Economics, HKUST, 2006-present; Dean of Economics and Management School, Wuhan University, June 2013. He has published more than 20 papers on international journals.
