Recently, the Yunnan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology signed an agreement with the Center of Bamboo Silk Manuscript of Wuhan University to collaborate on the compilation of Han Dynasty bamboo slips excavated from the Hebo Site in Jinning, Kunming, Yunnan Province.
The Hebo Site is located in Hebo Village, Shangsuantun, Jinning District, Kunming City, Yunnan Province. Since 2021, the Yunnan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology has been in charge of the excavation work at the site, unearthing a large number of bamboo slips, seals, and artifacts, as well as discovering the foundations of large buildings. It was selected as a "New Archaeological Discovery in China in 2022" and made it to the final evaluation of the "Top Ten Archaeological New Discoveries in China in 2022."
By 2022, more than 10,000 Han Dynasty bamboo slips have been unearthed from the Hebo Site, with over 2,000 of them containing characters. Preliminary work indicates that the bamboo slips contain rich content, including official documents, correspondence, and judicial documents.
The Center of Bamboo Silk Manuscript of Wuhan University has long been committed to the compilation and research of Warring States and Han Dynasty bamboo slips, hosting several major projects funded by the National Social Science Fund and major research topics of the Ministry of Education's Philosophy and Social Sciences Research. Since the beginning of this year, the Center has been cooperating with the Yunnan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology in compiling Han Dynasty bamboo slips unearthed from the Hebo Site, and has achieved preliminary results in reading and understanding them.
