【Luojia Forum】Professor Zhang Yunling Lectures on the World and China in a Century of Great Changes

On March 22, Professor Zhang Yunling, member of the Academic Department of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, chair professor of Shandong University, president of the Institute of International Studies, and director of the Strategic Advisory Committee of Northeast Asia University, gave a speech at the 367thlecture of Luojia Forum, and the topic of his speech is “the World and China in a Century of Great Change”. Shen Zhuanghai, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Wuhan University, presented him with a commemorative certificate for the Luojia Forum.

Zhang Yunling elaborated on the connotation of the great change in a century. He pointed out that it encompasses the transformation of world power, world system, development paradigm, science and technology, and China's own changes. It is not only a global transformation, but also China's transformation. In this process, not only has China changed, but also China has become a promoter of change and guardian of peaceful transformation. By reviewing major global events from the 20th century to the present, he summarized the five major dilemmas facing the world and believed that China should grasp the trends of change, rise up to the challenges, and take open development and national rejuvenation as important paths to respond to the great change in a century. Combining the changes in the world order, balance of power, development paradigm, and technological revolution in the century, he believes that countries around the world should seek answers in a "world without answers" and find certainty in an "uncertain world"; China should follow a new development paradigm, explore Chinese path to modernization, and create a different image of a major country. This lecture provides new perspectives and methods for future research on new trends in international changes, international economic governance, and major country relations.

During the Q&A session, Zhang Yunling answered questions raised by teacher and students about recent international capital market turmoil, geopolitical risks, Ukraine crisis, and other topics. This event is jointly organized by the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Economics and Management.
