International Conference on Scientometrics & Informetrics was held in WHU

On October 17, the 16^thInternational Conference on Scientometrics & Informetrics (ISSI) was held in Wuhan, attracting nearly 200 experts and scholars from 33 countries and regions.

The conference was sponsored by Wuhan University, International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics, Chinese Association for Science of Science and S&T Policy, and organized by Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation of Wuhan University. The conference covered topics such as metrological theory system, data science theory and method, knowledge map and visualization, patent analysis, science of science and technology policy, co-occurrence analysis and so on, and it has attracted more than 300 papers.

At the opening ceremony, Vice President Li Fei, Professor Cassidy R. Sugimoto from the University of Indiana, also the Chairman of the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics, and Prof. Qiu Junping, Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Association for Science of Science and S&T Policy, also Executive Chairman of this Conference, delivered speeches respectively. Professor Zhao Rongying, Director of the Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation, and Prof. Li Menghui from the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, made reports respectively.

According to reports, ISSI represents the highest level and the most influential biennial international conference in the field of international bibliometrics, information metrology, scientific metrology, network metrology, knowledge metrology, which attracts a large number of experts and scholars from metrology and related fields around the world. Institutions need to apply for the right to host the conference four years in advance, and selected host institution will be handed over the hosting right two years in advance. The Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation bid for the right of hosting this conference in Vienna in 2013 and won approval. In September 2015, the Center was handed over the hosting right.
