Professor Cai Shouqiu Lectures on Environmental Public Interest

On October 12, Professor Cai Shouqiu from the Institute of Environmental Law of Wuhan University was invited to give a lecture entitled "Environmental Public Interest is the Core for the Development of Environmental Public Interest Litigation" at the 57^thLecture of Luojia Environmental Law Forum of Wuhan University Institute of Environmental Law.

Professor Cai first pointed out that environmental public interest has become a consensus. He said that in order to understand the environmental public interest, we need to know the concept, nature and content of public interest and environment. He also stated that public interest means common need of the public and common interest. In addition, Professor Cai emphasized accuracy of the concept, and he illustrated the origin and development of concepts such as "commons" through abundant quotations.

Professor Cai then explained how to correctly understand environmental public interest litigation. He believed that there are different understanding and practice in the current theoretical and practical circles of environmental public interest litigation, this phenomenon is mainly due to different understanding of environmental public interest. In the end, Professor Cai stressed that environmental public interest is the driving force, guide and key of environmental public interest litigation development, and that China's law with socialist characteristics should stay true to its original mission, safeguard and expand public interest, and strive to develop and promote environmental public interest litigation.
