On November 13, Professor Du Qinggang, Dean of School of Foreign Languages and Literature of Wuhan University, was awarded the French Palm Education Officer Medal of Honor. By now, our university has altogether 12 recipients of medals of honor granted by the French Government.
Professor Du said that he would continue his efforts in teaching and research from this new starting point, and dedicated to write one or two more works that would stand the test of time.
It is learnt that Professor Du is from the French Department. His translation Selected Poems of Hugo has won the first prize of literary translation in Sichuan Province, his French fiction Chairman Mao Died was named the top 20 books in France in 2002,ranking the ninth. The winner of Nobel Prize for Literature Le Clézio wrote the preface for his latest book Word World, which became very popular on the Internet. In addition, he won the translation scholarship of the French Ministry of Culture, and in 2004, he was appointed as Distinguished Professor of Université Michel de Montaigne: Bordeaux 3
French Education Palm Medal of Honor was a recognition system created by Napoleon. As the highest honor in the education circle of France, it can be divided into three orders of honor: knight, officer, and commander. And it aims to commend people who have made outstanding contributions to French educational cooperation, science and technology exchanges and cultural communication.
