[Academic Achievement] 10-Volume General History of Chinese Philosophy (Academic Edition) Debuts at China's Independent Knowledge System Achievements Release Conference

(Reporter: Wang Zheng) On June 11, the China Independent Knowledge System Achievements Release Conference (Summer 2025) was held in Beijing. The event showcased four major accomplishments in philosophy and social sciences, among which was the 10-volume General History of Chinese Philosophy (Academic Edition), edited by Guo Qiyong, Professor at the School of Philosophy, Wuhan University.

This monumental work, the product of 15 years of research, represents one of the most complete and detailed historical overviews of Chinese philosophy produced by Chinese academia to date. At the conference, Prof. Hu Zhihong from Wuhan University’s Center of Traditional Chinese Culture Studies presented the series. He noted that the volumes are structurally coherent and rich in content, marking a landmark achievement in collaborative historical scholarship on Chinese philosophy. Prof. Ding Sixin from the Department of Philosophy at Tsinghua University, one of the contributors, commented: “Through rewriting the comprehensive history of Chinese philosophy, this work presents the enduring traditions, brilliant intellectual achievements, and abundant theoretical resources of Chinese thought. It helps refute claims that ‘China has no philosophy’ and reasserts the subjectivity of Chinese philosophical thought.”

The achievements release conference is held quarterly to showcase major academic achievements in the development of China’s independent knowledge systems. The first such conference, held on May 17, 2023, featured Wuhan University’s international law research achievements.
