The International Forum on Chinese Bamboo and Silk Manuscripts was initiated in 2006 by Professor Chen Wei from Wuhan University and Professor Edward L. Shaughnessy from the University of Chicago. It has since been held 14 times in cities such as Wuhan, Hong Kong, Taipei, Chicago, and Jeju Island, establishing itself as a key international platform for research on unearthed bamboo and silk documents. In 2023, Professors Chen Wei, Edward L. Shaughnessy, and Chen Zhi from HKBU's Jao Tsung-I Academy agreed to jointly host a new series of forums, with the next forum set to be held at the University of Chicago in 2025.
