On October 28th, the series of roundtable events "Expectation of China's Image in the Eyes of Others" by the Institute for Advanced Study in Dialogue of Civilizations, Wuhan University kicked off. The theme of the first roundtable event was "The Image of China and Its Shaping through the Dialogue of Civilizations". Wu Genyou, Dean of the Institute for Advanced Study in Dialogue of Civilizations, Wuhan University, Chen Bo, Academician of the International School of Philosophy and Chair Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences, Paul Patton, Academician of the Australian Academy of Humanities, Chair Professor of Hongyi Honor College of Wuhan University, Matthew Lutz, Associate Professor from the School of Philosophy of Wuhan University, and postdoctoral Ben Kerrasi gave keynote speeches respectively.

Wu Genyou discussed issues such as unity of China's history and reality with the identity of Chinese society, the Chinese and global issues of China's image.

Paul Patton mainly answered three questions: First, what role do Western scholars think China should play in maintaining world peace? Second, how to interpret China's rise in terms of China's history and current development? Third, how to understand the contribution of Chinese civilization to world civilization?

Paul Patton said that China has played a very important role in maintaining world peace. China should continue to participate in the maintenance of the world order, whether it is participating in international organizations, paying attention to specific global issues, promoting regional economic development, avoiding the risk of excessive politicization of regional economic policies, or promoting exchanges between scholars, narrowing the gap between China and the West, and reducing the misunderstandings or misleading aspects of Western media.

Ben Kerrasi elaborated on the two viewpoints understood by the international academic circles that "China's development model has contributed to the world".

During the Q&A session, students discussed with experts on Afghanistan issues and global epidemic issues among others.
