【Scholar News】Qin Tianbao won the 6th Hubei Provincial Environmental Protection Government Award

The 6th Hubei Provincial Environmental Protection Government Award was announced recently. Professor Qin Tianbao, Director of the Institute of Environmental Law of Wuhan University, won the title of Advanced Individual. This is after the Liangzi Lake Lake Ecosystem National Field Science Observation and Research Station and the School of Resources and Environmental Sciences, which have won the second and third Hubei Provincial Environmental Protection Government Awards for Advanced Collectives, our university once again won this honor.

Professor Qin Tianbao participated in the drafting or demonstration of nearly 40 laws, regulations and local regulations, including the Environmental Protection Law and the Regulations on Soil Pollution Prevention and Control of Hubei Province. He was elected as the Vice Chairman of the Compliance Committee of the Nagoya Protocol under the Convention on Biological Diversity, and participated in international negotiations on biodiversity, oceans, and world environmental conventions as the legal adviser of the Chinese delegation. During the Covid-19 epidemic, Qin Tianbao expressed suggestions on amending the Wildlife Protection Law and advancing the Biosafety Law by accepting media interviews, writing papers, and participating in international conferences.

It is learnt that the Hubei Provincial Environmental Protection Government Award was the first and currently the only provincial environmental protection government award in China. Since 2013, 6 awards and commendations have been carried out and a total of 44 collectives and 42 individuals have been awarded.
