WHU Alumni Cheng Yifan and Chen Xiaohong elected the 2019 American Academy of Arts and Sciences

On April 17th, US local time, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS) announced the list of newly elected academicians in 2019, and 12 Chinese were selected, including our alumni Cheng Yifan and Chen Xiaohong.

Cheng Yifan was elected in the fields of biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology. He is a professor of biochemistry and biophysics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and Howard Hughes Medical Researcher (HHMI). Cheng Yifan was enrolled by the Physics Department of Wuhan University in 1978. He received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991 and became an assistant professor of UCSF in 2006.

Chen Xiaohong was elected in the fields of economics. She is currently a professor of economics at Yale University. Chen Xiaohong graduated from the Mathematics Department of Wuhan University in 1986 and received his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego in 1993. In 1993, he joined the Department of Economics of the University of Chicago as an assistant professor. In 2007, he joined Yale University as a professor of economics.

It is reported that the American Academy of Arts and Sciences is one of the oldest academician institute in the United States and one of the most respected honorary groups in the United States. It is also an academic center for independent policy research.
