On January 8, 2019, the National Institute of Chinese Language Matters and Social Development held the "Language and Country" academic salon to discuss the topic of "Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence". Young scholars from different disciplines both inside and outside the university were invited to discuss frontier issues such as the language needs of artificial intelligence development and the impact of artificial intelligence on language life and linguistics.

The theme of this event is “Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence”, which is mainly based on the following three aspects: First, the drive of social development; Second, the mission of the discipline; Third, the obligation of the Institute.

Regarding the specific topics of this Salon, Professor Zhao Shiju proposed to focus on two dimensions: First, what is the demand for linguistics in the development of artificial intelligence? And what is the role that linguistics can play in the development of artificial intelligence; second, what impact will the development of artificial intelligence have on language life and linguistics? And how will linguistics adapt and utilize the development of artificial intelligence? In response to these questions, all the participating scholars have expressed their opinions.
