[Changjiang Forum] Lecture 164: Managing Disruptions in International Business: Effectuation, Business Model Innovation, and Channel Resilience

On the morning of May 22nd, the 164th lecture of the Changjiang Forum was held in Room A208 of the School of Economics and Management at Wuhan University, hosted by the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Economics and Management. Professor Li Jiatao from the School of Business of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology delivered an academic report titled "Managing Disruptions in International Business: Effectuation, Business Model Innovation, and Channel Resilience." More than forty teachers and students participated in the forum.

First, Professor Li Jiatao introduced five emerging research topics in international business: digital economy, global or regional integration and decoupling, strategies of multinational enterprises in emerging markets, innovation and catching-up mechanisms of emerging market enterprises, and informal institutions and international business, enabling students to gain a better understanding of the cutting-edge topics ininternational business research. Then, Professor Li Jiatao explained six special issues of the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS), some of which focus on global mobility and others on the history of international business, and he answered the questions raised by the students on-site one by one.

In the second part of the forum, Professor Li Jiatao presented the latest research papers related to deep uncertainty. Global environmental turbulence unexpectedly disrupts international distribution channels, making channel resilience an important issue for international distribution companies. The effectuation evaluation process can provide assistance in this regard, but existing methods may not always be suitable for constantly changing market conditions. Enterprises often need new means to complement existing ones in response to unexpected disruptions or emergencies.
