[Academic News] WHU was Selected as a Collaborative Research and Innovation Platform for the National "the Inheritance and Development Project of Ancient Chinese Characters and Chinese Civilization"

Recently, the "Notice of the General Office of the Ministry of Education on the First Batch of Collaborative Research and Innovation Platforms for the Inheritance and Development of Ancient Chinese Characters and Chinese Civilization" was issued. Wuhan University, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Jilin University, Fudan University for a total of 12 units were selected as the first batch of Collaborative Research and Innovation Platforms for the for the Inheritance and Development of Ancient Chinese Characters and Chinese Civilization.

The "Project for the Inheritance and Development of Ancient Chinese Characters and Chinese Civilization" is a major cultural project. The nation’s superior strengths will be coordinated to comprehensively and systematically carry out the research and collation of ancient scripts such as oracle bone inscriptions, bronze inscriptions, and silk manuscripts.

The Center of Bamboo Silk Manuscripts of Wuhan University has been identified as the department that specifically undertakes the task of collaborative research and innovation platform, and the Director of the Center, Professor Chen Wei, is appointed as the project leader

At present, the Center of Bamboo Silk Manuscripts of Wuhan University has submitted a five-year planning mission statement, which will mainly focus on "the sorting and research of bamboo slips from the Warring States, the Qin and Han Dynasties". After five years of continuous efforts, progress and academic results will be expected to be made in discipline and team building, academic research, talent training and academic research platform construction and other aspects.

The Center was established in 2005 and was listed as a key research base for humanities and social sciences in Hubei Province in 2006. The Chinese academic journalBamboo and Silkwas selected as the source journal of CSSCI in 2014, and the English journalBamboo and Silk(published by Brill) was included in the European Research Index for the Humanities and Social Sciences (ERIH PLUS) in 2019 and 2021, and included in the Web of Science's Emerging Sources Citation Index database. The Center also runs an academic website named "Bamboo and Silk Net" (http://www.bsm.org.cn/). In addition, it also cooperates with the University of Chicago and other institutions to hold the academic conference "International Forum on Chinese Bamboo and Silk Studies", which has been held for ten sessions so far.
