President Dou Xiankang attends the 2021 University Presidents Global Forum Plenary Session

On April 24th, on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of Tsinghua University, the 2021 University Presidents Global Forum plenary meeting was held at Tsinghua University. President Dou Xiankang was invited to attend the roundtable discussion as a guest.

With the theme of "Creating the Future Together: The University's Vision and New Mission", more than a hundred university presidents from around the world gathered in the main building of Tsinghua University in both offline and online form to discuss the promotion of world higher education to achieve new development and contribute wisdom to the future of higher education .

With the main purpose of building a more integrated and resilient university, Dou Xiankang pointed out that the world today is undergoing major changes unseen in a century. Considering the development of universities from the perspective of national rejuvenation strategies, universities should focus on the fundamental task of establishing moral integrity in cultivation and pursuing education for all-round development, and center on the unshakable mission of cultivating talents.

Dou Xiankang also believes that universities should always remain open and inclusive and strengthen international cooperation. Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, Wuhan University, Ohio State University, Harvard University and other foreign universities have carried out various forms of continuous in-depth cooperation on epidemic prevention and control, vaccine research and development, and jointly contributed to the global fight against the epidemic.

President Dou emphasized that to build a more resilient university, it is necessary to improve the ability to quickly respond to various risks and challenges in modern society. At the same time, it is necessary to keep in mind the mission of the university. Looking to the future, universities should uphold the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, and work together to solve major issues facing the world such as climate change and environmental protection with a more open attitude and a spirit of cooperation.
