New progress has been made in the study of the prehistoric city site in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River by WHU

(Correspondent Chang Xuan) On April 30, the international academic journalArchaeological Research in Asia(indexed by A&HCI) published online the scientific research results of Wuhan University School of History and Wuhan University Yangtze River Civilization Archaeological Research Institute. An anonymous review of the journal believes that the author of this article has obtained a lot of first-hand materials at the Zoumaling site, and conducted a comprehensive original analysis of the age, layout, livelihood economy, and pottery production of the city site.

The paper is titledThe emergence of walled towns in prehistoric middle Yangtze River valley: Excavations at the Zoumaling site. Dr. Shan Siwei from the Department of Archaeology, School of History, Wuhan University is the first author of the paper, and Dr. Li Tao is the corresponding author of the paper.

At present, the research team at the Zoumaling site is carrying out handicraft production, tomb analysis, and ancient environmental restoration. In the future, it will focus on comprehensive research on household and village scales to further explain the relationship between household differences and social complexity of the site.
