Wuhan University School of Social Sciences Unveiled

On October 12, the unveiling ceremony of the School of Social Sciences of Wuhan University was held. Dou Xiankang, the President of Wuhan University, attended the ceremony together with other sociology experts from more than 40 universities and research institutes. Dou Xiankang, Li Peilin, Li Youmei and He Xuefeng, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, jointly unveiled the nameplate of Wuhan University School of Social Sciences.

It is learnt that the School of Social Sciences of Wuhan University has a history of nearly one hundred years. As early as in the 1920s, famous scholars Li Da and Li Hanjun taught sociology courses at Wuhan University, which played an important role in the establishment and development of modern Chinese sociology. In 1983, Wuhan University took the lead in restoring sociology teaching and became one of the first 10 universities inChinato rebuild sociology. In 1986, WHU began to enroll undergraduate students in sociology. In 1990, WHU began to enroll graduate students. In 1994, the Department of Sociology of Wuhan University was formally established. In 2005, it became a direct department under Wuhan University. In 2019, it was officially renamed as the School of Social Sciences of Wuhan University.
