Professor Robert Murowchick of Boston University Gave an Academic Report in WHU

On September 28, 2017, Professor Robert Murowchick, Deputy Director of the Asian Research Center at the University of Boston, gave a report entitled "Let the Antiquities tell their own stories - the study of Chinese bronzes in the West" at the School of History of Wuhan University. Dozens of teachers and students attended the report.

Professor Murowchick's report was divided into five parts, including the several stages of western collections and studies on Chinese bronze, as well as explanations on works and views of Western scholars on the study of Chinese bronze.

With further development of trade between China and Western countries, Western society gradually got to know and fell in love with Chinese art in the eighteenth century. Some westerners started to collect and study an important representative of ancient Chinese art - bronze in Shang Zhou Dynasties. In this process, the Western society built some museums featured Chinese culture and art, which the Chinese people were also actively involved.

At the end of his report, Professor Murowchick predicted the prospect of metallurgy archeology, he believes that the development of metallurgical archeology will play a very important role for bronze research, which will not only broaden our horizons, and make a more in-depth understanding of bronze possible, but also help to gain a more thorough understanding of the ancient society through bronze.
