Comparative Philosophy and Cultural Strategy Research Center was Established

On May 27, the Hubei Province Humanities and Social Science Key Research Base "Wuhan University Comparative Philosophy and Cultural Strategy Research Center" was established. "Theory, Methods and Practical Issues of Comparative Philosophy" academic seminar was held at the same time. About 60 experts and scholars from the United States, Japan and other institutions at home and abroad, took part in this event.

"Wuhan University Comparative Philosophy and Cultural Strategy Research Center" is a Hubei Province Humanities and Social Science Key Research Base, it was approved in October 2016 as one of the 21 provincial key bases. Its predecessor was "Wuhan University Chinese and Western Comparative Philosophy Research Center" which was established in 2004. The establishment of the Center will help to unite the academic forces that are interested in comparative philosophy and comparative cultural studies, and push the comparative philosophy and comparative culture into a new level.

Professor Wu Genyou, Dean of the School of Philosophy, believes that with the implementation of the strategy of "Belt and Road" Initiative, the study of comparative philosophy and comparative culture should combine theory with and practice, theoretical study of philosophy should be conducted through comparative philosophy, and in this way, we can help to promote economic and social development through comparative study of culture.

At the subsequent seminar, Professor Dai Maotang, Yao Xinzhong, Professor Huang Yong from the Department of Philosophy of Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor Bryan Van Norden of the University of Vaasa, Professor Sha Zongping from the Department of Philosophy of Peking University, delivered keynote speeches respectively. Their topics covered "triple constraints" of Chinese philosophy researchers, the third route of comparative philosophy studies, religious issues for countries along the “Belt and Road” etc.
